Selective Service Act of 1917

Enacted on May 18, 1917, the Selective Service Act required all men from the ages of 21 to 30 to register for military service. This was done to raise the number of people in military service for preparation of going to Europe to fight in the war. The first official national registration day was on June 5, 1917.
