Page 1 Thursday 8:30 pm Oct 7, 1909 My D.S L & A. Ruth: Maybe you cant figure that headline out but believe me it stands for every thing good that I can think of. I am writing this letter on Thursday but I am not going to send it until I receive your letter which has been due for two days according to my estimation of time. It is a great relief Page 2 for me to write to you now even if I dont send it right away. I have been looking for your letter for two days now. Hope you didnt get hurt gind night or havent you had that yet. I got a nice long letter from Al. Mackey. He sure has been having some trouble in his class. But I suppose you he has told you all about that. If he hasnt written to you by this time he ought to be chastised. And if he has I will have to chastise him. It looks bad for him either Page 3 way dont it. The way things look now I will be home in Waukegan one week from Saturday Oct 9. That is I will be home Oct 16. But only for a day. I will have to start right back here Oct Sunday evening. Al. Hall. D. Morrow E Cust, Bridie Talcot and myself are going to take in the Chicago-Illinois foot ball game at Chicago Oct 16. Then we are going home for Sunday. Now if you promise not to tell any one I will tell you some news. Al. Hall intends to take Orfah S to the game. E Crist may take Marguriet D. and Dwight Morrow is going to take (Genivive) Lyons. (maybe, not decided as yet) I dont think I Dwight intends to go to Waukegan either. Now if I could only take you you know how happy I would be but as circumstances are I guess I will have to grin and bear it. I will take some grinning to cover up the fe deficiency too. In fact it is impossible. If I go home Oct 16. Page 4 I wont go home thankgiving-day. I read by the Waukegan Daily Gazette that Max Yeoman (Geo. Boggs grandfather) died of heart failure. He was driving the automobile and ran into the curbing. That is suppose to have brot on the sudden attack. He ran into the curbing in the morning but didnt die until the following night. Some people believe that every-thing is planned and fore ordained Page 5 but any way you look at it, its is sad and awful. We had a freshman class meeting to night but it was so long and tiresome I didnt stick thru it all. Went to church again Sunday. That is the time that I feel the most homesick longing to be home and strange to say it is when I think of you most. Dont you ever give just a little thought to me now and then. If you do you know to a slight degree how I feel. This is all I am going to write to you now. When I XXXXX letter I will finish Page 6 this and send it. I would sent it before getting your letter but I dont like to appear to be forcing you any and imposing upon you. So good night & sweet dreams. Heres hoping I get your letter to-morrow. My Dear Ruth: I didnt get a letter from you yet in answer t the one I send a week ago yesterday but I am going to send this one on the supposition that you didnt get my letter or have sent your reply and I havent received it yet. But maybe I am expecting too much of you when I write so often if so please let me know and I will correct the mistake. I just got back for Military Drill. It isnt near as nice as it sounds. I am dead tired of standing straight and marching. Am going to a C. Engineering Club social tonight. After the social the next thing in order will be putting I Raffin in the bath tub. He sure has improved. He is a Soph and we are Freshmen. This is the night Freshman put it over the (Soph) Raffin in our House. Ever Yours H.W.D.
