Miss E. L. Tarver Most kind friend. It gives me a profound pleasure to extend to you these present greetings. Yours of the 18th was rec. and read with deep enthusiasm. I was indeed glad that you realized the depth of our once cherished and treasured friendship. Whereas I wish to state that my actual conscience wouldnt allow me to prolong the time in answering your most deliquent and sincere missive. It has always been my chief aim not to hold malice or cause anyone to be pained bored or to allow there to be any obstacle in anyway upon granting ones mind a free play to exercise their opinions upon one whom they wish to confide in most. Elizabeth, you will never be able to realize how much I really cared for you. Although I do grant you (unknown) but, our friendship can never be the same. Of course it is quite plain and stands to reason by my being away from your presence, caused your mind and thought of me to lapse somewhats but never did mine stay off of you for one minute. I often told you to trust me and have patience, but seeming by you forgotten me and your pledge altogether. Being young without profession though ambition and after spending a year and a half in ther services of the Gov. quite natural I had to get myself readjusted in every way, finisally especially, so you see little girl, why that I was so far away from you in distance but was quite close indeed in the heart. However, I will not endeavor to go into details to relate the many things that it takes to make life happy, which will or would seem radical to you. But I wish to say in the conclusion of this message no one will or has ever had the sincerety of heart in your behalf as I. Heres hopeing that your future life will be marked with ideal warmth of sincerety, and love by thoes who may manifest it you. Any my your days of sorrow in the past be your happiest ones in the future, with the deepest wishes I am Very truly yours, Westley Dyer
