Westley H. Dyer:

Dearest Elizabeth:
How is my little girlie? I arrived at my destination safely. I am yet quite tired from sucha long ride, I am only 1000 miles away from "the only one" that ever made my heart burn in flames of real affection. Yet in a vision of your "cute dimples" which lies in the "sweetest little face" in all the world, you seem so near, I certainly hated to leave my "little fairy girlie," but as the best of friend's must part, I guess that you and I are to likewise. We were three days makeing our trip, and as we departed from old Camp Grant, many throughts of happiness would appear in "my most greived mind." I shall never forget the old campgrounds which I trodded over [on?] many a day which gave me my military learning, and made me what I am today. We left "Rockford" about 3 oclock over the lake shore line, and was wildly cheered in every town we gone through. We covored six states enroute to Long Island, going through Indiana, Mischigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jearsey, and New York State; arriveing in Hoboken N.J. takeing a Steamer for long Island it conveying us across the harbor We taken a fast train for Camp Upton. "And I am just tickled to death" with such marvelous locality. We are about 65 miles from New York City and it seems as tough it is a 1.65 miles. Historically speaking we are out side of civilization, "mosquitos," Ye, Gods! they almost take you away alive. and there's not a possible chance of getting away from them, for they are certainly (peace disturbers.) speaking about the east, I have just gone wild over the eastern hospitality. why, the people almost pulled us of our cars with their wild cheer and paitotic demonstration. we were also met by the "red cross girls" in each and every town that we stopped in, and the cigaretts, cigars, I never received so many gifts at one time since being Gov., services. And believe "your soldier boy, " I am going to make the east my home when I return from France. Now girlie, I would like very much to see you once more before going to Europe, "babie love," you cant begin to imagine how it grips my bleeding heart, to think, I only gott in a taste of your love and had to leave you so soon. Gee! it is hard to realize. Oh, how I wished for you the other night when I lay in my berth, If only I had you in "my big loveing arms" I would have broke your little bones. And believe, "your little corporal" I wouldn't allow you to sleep, I would have been worse than the mosquitos! "girlie mine" do you really care for me? I know you cant begain to care as much for me as I do you because you are my daily thoughts and my nightly dreams. I shall always feel that I am endebted to you. For the simple reason when I had a chance to show you my real love I was a little shy in my action. "Darling girl" you must be sweet and loveing to me, because if you pass me up I will be so very miserable. "Now Darling" I am going to be sweet and clean just for you, and I know you will be fair with me wont you "baby"? Oh dear are you blue just because I am so far away from "my little pet. Well I will look for a long sweet letter from you, and also your picture which you so faithfully promised me for it is the only picture that I want to have in my posession. I have strong belief that a photo of a little "damsel" so sweet, in my pocket would help to give me the fighting spirit of a lion. So you see you can help win the war, and also help me to get back safely to you, that is if you really care as much for me as you say you do? "Now Baby," I want you to be cherrful and think of me, write me, and love me. And please donot forget to pray for me. If you do just those for things for me "lovie," I shall go in to face the tragedy without fear. In the mean time always thinking of the "little girl" that I left behind and that I shall come back safe and sound. Just a remark or two "dear" and I will bring this short message to a close, Give my love to Miss Gussie and your beloved Mother Here's hopeing that you had a good time in Chic., thursday. With your loveing and kind permission's I will ring off for this time With a 1000,000 kisses. I am
Indeed
Yours Sincerely
