Urbana, Ill. Nov. 1. 1909. My dear Ruth: I haven't any news to tell you this time as this is strictly a business letter. I am writing this to inform you that I have changed my place of residence. I am now living at 905 W. California Ave. Urbana, Ill. I have a nice large room here and a quiet respectable neighborhood. It is a trifle further from University grounds but the street is paved and most of the professors live right around here so it is alright. Dwight and I are still rooming together. Al. Hall Ed. Crist. Fred. Rosencrans and the two Rockwell boys also moved into the same house. Mancel Tolcott has joined a local Fraternity. So all the Wauk-egan bunch there are left in the old house is Isador. Raffin. We didnt like the land-lady very well and she didnt like us very well. Every time we made the slightest noise of out of the ordinary she would come up-stairs to see what it was all about. She came up-stairs so often that we got tired and complained. She said if we didnt like it we could get out so we got. She didnt think we would but she didnt know us. She treated us nice as pie the first last two or three days. Mother wrote to me and told me that the boys and girls were roller-skating again in Waukegan. Maybe it didnt bring back memories. But then it is only about 49 more days before Christmas counting the Thanksgiving holidays. I may go home thanksgiving but I dont know. I suppose you have heard the news of Ned Upton dying. It seems awful the way they are dying off in Waukegan. I heard that Weldon T. was hazed at Madison. Made Forced to make love to and propose to the Co-Eds there. I suppose that just suited him. but of course he denied it. The Junior Prom this year is going to be a private affair this year. No one but Juniors or Seniors allowed to go to it. No fancy dresses to be worn. Games to be played for those who dont dance etc. That is one thing less to grieve over. I wont be wishing I was home to go to the prom. I bet Al M. is angry or else Adele M. also John and Evelyn. The board of Education passed the rules governing the prom. This is really all the news I can think of now so I will have to close. Dwight is home now so I guess we will begin to un-pack. Illinois beat Purdue 24-6. Pretty good yes. Au Revoir Mio Amico + Homer 905 W. California Urbana, Illinois Write soon and tell me all about yourself and your troubles and pleasures. I crossed that out because it looked too formal and (I hope) superfluous. Question: Do you believe the enclosed clipping is true to life? If not. Why not?
